Three members of the same family died after being burnt to death in an explosion caused by a gas leak in the capital’s Bhatara Notunbazar area. After the deaths of her husband Shahin and their niece Hafsa Akter, her wife Fahima Akter (21) died while undergoing treatment.
He died while undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery on Saturday (July 25) night.
The institute’s resident physician, Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, said that 45 percent of Fahima’s body was burned.
Earlier, her husband Shahin (24) died at around 6 am on Friday and their niece Hafsa Akhtar (8) died at around 1 am on Thursday. Shahin suffered burns on 50 percent of his body and Hafsa suffered burns on 40 percent.
An explosion and fire broke out on the ground floor of a six-story building in the 100 Feet Road area of Notunbazar at around 4 am on Tuesday. Shahin, his wife Fahima and niece Hafsa were burnt.
They were later rescued and admitted to the National Burn Institute.
Neighbor Md. Jasim Uddin, who brought the burned victims to the hospital, said that Shahin worked in a clothing showroom. Hearing the explosion, neighbors rushed to see that all three people inside the house were burned. They were later quickly taken to the hospital.
