Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed has taken over as acting president as per the constitution after Md. Shahabuddin resigned citing health reasons. After taking over, he said that although the president’s office will be located in Bangabhaban, he will stay at the speaker’s residence in the Sangsad Bhaban area.
It is learned that after assuming this new responsibility, special security arrangements have been strengthened for the President’s safety at the Speaker’s residence and around it on the Parliament premises since Friday (July 24) afternoon.
Earlier on Friday, Md. Shahabuddin resigned from the post of President, citing health reasons.
After his resignation, Speaker of the National Assembly Hafiz Uddin Ahmed assumed the duties of Acting President in accordance with constitutional provisions.
