Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the government to work with utmost caution and coordination to protect the lives and property of people affected by the waterlogging caused by continuous heavy rains and to ensure prompt relief and medical services. He also directed the field administration and all concerned agencies not to commit any negligence in dealing with the situation.
He gave these instructions at a meeting held with field administration officials of eight divisions through the virtual platform Zoom from the Prime Minister’s Office at the Secretariat on Sunday (July 12) afternoon. The meeting was attended by divisional commissioners, DIGs, deputy commissioners (DCs), superintendents of police (SPs), civil surgeons and other concerned officials.
The Prime Minister said that in this disaster situation, protecting people’s lives and property is the administration’s top priority. Relief materials, dry food, pure water, baby food, and essential medicines must be delivered to the affected people quickly.
Regarding the shelters, he said that in addition to ensuring a safe environment, adequate sanitation, electricity and communication systems must be maintained. He especially emphasized ensuring the safety and healthcare of women, children, the elderly and pregnant women.
