Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has expressed hope that the country’s people will stop turning to foreign countries for better treatment through the hands of today’s medical students and interns. At the same time, he emphasized that a doctor should not only excel professionally but also become a human being.
The Prime Minister made these remarks while addressing the ‘DMC Day-2026’ program organized to mark the 81st founding anniversary of Dhaka Medical College (DMCC) on Saturday (July 11).
Describing Dhaka Medical College as a witness of time and living history, Tarique Rahman said, “This institution has played an important role in every aspect, be it the Language Movement of 1952, the Great Liberation War of 1971, the anti-dictatorship movement of 1990, or the heroic student-public uprising of 2024 to protect the independence of the country and the people.”
Not only the best doctors have emerged from here, but also great people who did not hesitate to sacrifice their own interests to save the lives of others.
Regarding the relationship between patients and doctors, the Prime Minister said that doctors are truly the best friends of people in times of danger.
A doctor’s advice and sincere treatment become as effective as medicine for a patient. Therefore, it is important for doctors to become humane people in addition to their professional excellence.
