A court has sent a man to prison in a case filed against the father of a Jagannath University (JU) teacher over an incident in Keraniganj, Dhaka, where he was allegedly attacked for stopping drug consumption.
Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Court Judge Tanvir Ahmed on Friday ordered the accused Ehsanur Haque Mahim (22) to be sent to jail. At the same time, the next hearing of the case has been fixed for Sunday. Plaintiff’s lawyer Khalid Hossain confirmed this information.
According to court sources, after the incident, the police arrested the accused Mahim and presented him in court. Later, after the hearing, the judge ordered him to be sent to jail.
According to the case information, the attack took place at around 7:30 pm on Thursday in the Madaripur Road-2 area of Kalindi Union under Keraniganj Model Police Station.
According to the complaint, the accused Mahim had been chatting and consuming drugs in front of the house of Md. Raisul Islam, an associate professor of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Jagannath University, for a long time. When he was asked about the matter, he threatened the victim’s family members at various times.
On the day of the incident, when teacher Raisul Islam’s father Nazrul Islam (67) forbade them from chatting, Mahim got angry and abused him in foul language and at one point threw him to the ground and punched and kicked him. Later, when he tried to hit him with an iron rod, it hit him under the eye, causing a bloody wound.
Hearing the screams, the people nearby came forward and the accused tried to escape. Later, the agitated crowd caught him and handed him over to the police.
