A child in the Moscow region was rescued after swallowing 20 magnets, according to the regional health ministry’s press service.
The incident occurred in Balashikha : an ambulance brought a young patient complaining of acute abdominal pain to the hospital. An examination revealed a large number of metal foreign bodies inside the child. The girl was immediately taken to surgery.
Doctors decided to avoid invasive surgery. Through tiny punctures, specialists carefully removed 20 magnets from the child’s body. They had already attracted each other and burned through the intestinal wall. Five of them had even migrated into the pelvic area.
Surgeons repaired the child’s perforated intestine. The girl recovered quickly and has already been discharged home.
