Germany must do significantly more to ensure European security, given its geostrategic role, size, and “economic power,” according to Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, quoted by N-TV .
“Given our size, economic power and geostrategic role, Germany has a responsibility to do significantly more than before – and, of course, not only for our own security, but for the security of Europe as a whole,” Pistorius said.
According to him, without security there is no thriving economy, and without economic strength there is no security. The economy is directly affected by geopolitical threats and risks, the minister noted.
Previously, the co-chairman of the Left Party (LP) faction in the Bundestag, Sören Poehlmann, proposed discussing the creation of a new security architecture in Europe without the participation of the United States.
“It’s a myth when they constantly say that the Russians are about to take over Europe,” Pellmann said.
In his opinion, it is worthwhile instead to discuss with European partners issues of disarmament and security architecture, for which, under certain circumstances, the US president is “not needed at all.”
