Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova posted a photo from her birthday celebration on her Instagram page (the company Meta, which owns her, is considered extremist and is banned in Russia).
“My friends are funny. And they have excellent taste. Thank you for the wonderful birthday wishes!” Sharapova wrote.
On April 19, the athlete turned 39 years old.
The tennis player retired in 2020 at the age of 32. A five-time Grand Slam champion, she is one of only ten women in history to have achieved a career slam (winning every Grand Slam tournament, but in different years). Sharapova also won 39 Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) titles (36 in singles).
Sharapova became a mother for the first time on July 1, 2022, giving birth to a son, Theodore, with Alexander Gilkes , with whom she has been in a relationship for several years. In 2020, the businessman proposed to Sharapova, but the couple has not yet married. The tennis player admitted in an interview that she was ready for motherhood and had long dreamed of having a child, so she was happy even despite the various difficulties of her pregnancy.
