A child died after drowning in a nearby pond while playing in the yard of his house in Laksam, Comilla. The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon in Paotali village of the upazila.
The child’s name is Ibrahim (6). He is the son of Mosharraf Hossain of Paotali village in Ajgara union of Laksam.
According to family and local sources, Ibrahim left the house on Tuesday afternoon and went to play in the yard of the house. After not seeing him for a long time, the family members started searching for him. At one point, at around 1:30 pm, relatives saw the child floating in a pond near the house. After being rescued, he was quickly taken to the Laksam Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
Laksam Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Nazia Binte Alam confirmed the incident and said that the child was brought to the hospital dead. Doctors at the hospital’s emergency department confirmed his death after conducting tests.
