According to the latest analysis by real estate consultancy firm Net Frank, the number of billionaires in the world currently stands at 3,110. This number could increase by about 25 percent to 3,915 in the next five years.
At the same time, the number of multimillionaires is also growing rapidly. The number of people with assets of at least $30 million has increased from 162,191 in 2021 to 713,626 today – an increase of more than 300 percent.
Liam Bailey, the firm’s head of research, said the technology sector, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), has accelerated the pace of wealth creation. According to him, the ability to scale businesses is now greater than ever before, which is playing a major role in rapid wealth creation.
The study found that the number of billionaires in oil-rich Saudi Arabia will grow the fastest, rising from 23 in 2026 to 65 in 2031. Poland and Sweden could also see significant increases over the same period.
Meanwhile, the gap between rich and poor is growing in the world. A recent report by the World Inequality Lab says that a very small portion of the world controls a large portion of global wealth.
In this context, the demand for increasing taxes on the super-rich is growing. According to analysts, huge wealth is not only transforming into economic power, but in many cases, political influence as well.
The international organization Oxfam said that a record number of new billionaires were created last year. Their combined wealth now stands at around $18.3 trillion.
