One lakh health workers will be recruited in stages: Dr. Ziauddin Haider

Efforts will be made to increase the allocation for the health sector by at least 1 percent in the upcoming national budget, said Dr. Ziauddin Haider, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health. At the same time, he also announced plans to recruit 100,000 new health workers in phases. He said this initiative is being taken as part of making the healthcare system stronger and more modern.

Dr. Ziauddin Haider made these remarks while talking to reporters after visiting the graves of former President Shaheed Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia on Thursday (April 30).

He said that efforts will be made to increase the allocation for the health sector by at least 1 percent in the upcoming budget. In addition, about 100,000 new health workers will be recruited in stages to address the manpower crisis in the country’s health sector.

Expressing a strong stance to prevent corruption in the health sector, he said that corruption must be curbed for the development of the health sector.

He also said that efforts are underway to gradually move from a treatment-centric health system to a prevention-centric health system, in which more emphasis is placed on disease prevention.

He also expressed hope that the measles outbreak will gradually decrease through the emergency vaccination program.
