BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has joined a rally organized by the Nationalist Workers’ Party in Nayapaltan in the capital to celebrate May Day. He reached the rally venue at 4:20 pm today, Friday, and took his seat on the stage as the chief guest. Party Secretary General and Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir had arrived there before the Prime Minister’s arrival.
Earlier, the main activities of the rally began at 2:30 pm with recitation of the Holy Quran and prayers. However, at the beginning of the program, a pleasant cultural program was performed to increase the crowd and energize the party leaders and activists. Despite the adverse weather and rain, workers and party leaders and activists from different units of Dhaka metropolis started gathering in front of the Nayapaltan office in separate processions from 1 pm.
Thousands of leaders and activists present at the rally wore red caps and red T-shirts, creating a revolutionary atmosphere in the entire area. The streets were filled with drums and chants. A significant number of working women participated in this event. The main program began with a welcome speech by Labor Party leader Abdullah Al Mamun.
The entire area has been covered in a tight security cordon for the safety of the Prime Minister and other top leaders. Along with the police, RAB, BGB and DB members engaged in maintaining law and order, a large number of plainclothes intelligence members have been put on alert throughout the area. Special firefighting equipment of the Fire Service has also been deployed there to deal with any emergency situation like fire. Currently, the rally is being successfully conducted in the presence of the Prime Minister.
