A Moscow garbage dump has become a magnet for people from all over Russia.

In Moscow’s Maryina Roshcha district, on Streletsky Proyezd, there’s a trash bin that has attracted people from all over Russia for several years. It’s so famous that an entire VKontakte group has been dedicated to it, with nearly 20,000 subscribers. The MSK1 portal tells the story of the bin .

According to the portal, people flock here for one purpose: to urinate and leave various gifts, such as chips or chocolate bars, and then take a photo. Community subscribers refer to this process as a “pilgrimage.”

Relieving oneself in a public place may be considered petty hooliganism (Article 20.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation). Those found guilty face a fine of 500 to 1,000 rubles or arrest for up to 15 days.

A young resident of the neighborhood who lives near the dumpster created the local dumpster group. He often saw passersby misusing the dumpster, which he shared in the group. Somehow, his community’s theme attracted thousands of people.

Not long ago, a plaque, styled like a standard cultural heritage site information sign, was even placed on the walls of the dump. The QR code leads to a group link. The dumpster has now been sealed and fenced off with an iron fence. Residents of the area admit they weren’t bothered by the activities of those who lived there.
