The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) is set to start generating 1,200 megawatts of electricity from December this year or January next year. However, preparations are underway to start generating 300 megawatts of electricity from this country’s first nuclear power plant by the last week of August.
The nuclear power project, located in Rooppur, Ishwardi, Pabna, has reached the final stage of implementation, and uranium (fuel) loading officially began in the reactor of the first unit on April 28. This marks the beginning of the power generation process.
Once all the processes are completed, the two-unit RNPP project will generate a total of 2400 MW of electricity, 1200 MW each. Russia is supplying the fuel for this nuclear project, uranium-235.
Sources from the Ministry of Science and Technology and Rosatom and the Rooppur project say that fuel loading has already been completed in the reactor. The process of starting the fission reaction in the reactor is now underway.
