A former Chhatra Dal leader named Mashequr Rahman Liton Bhuiyan (44) was killed in a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a covered van in Narsingdi’s Monohardi.
The accident occurred around 9 pm on Saturday (July 4) in the Noadia area of Ekduaria Union of the upazila.
The deceased, Mashekur Rahman Liton Bhuiyan, was the son of Suruj Mia, a resident of Chhota Bhuiyan Bari in Binnabaid Union of Belab Upazila. He was a former officer of Grameen Bank.
In his personal life, he is married and has two sons. He was also actively involved in BNP politics and served as the former president of Binnabaid Union Chhatra Dal in Belab Upazila.
According to family and local sources, Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain Bakul was present at the financial incentive and dry food distribution program among the needy and helpless people at the Belab Upazila Parishad Auditorium on Saturday afternoon. Mashekur Rahman Liton also participated in the program.
After the event, while returning to Narsingdi’s house on his motorcycle, his motorcycle collided head-on with a covered van coming from the opposite direction in the Noadia area. He was seriously injured and was rescued by locals and taken to the nearby Shibpur Upazila Health Complex. The doctor on duty there declared him dead.
Shafiqul Islam, a neighbor of the deceased, said, “Liton was very active and popular in politics. He died in an accident on his way back from attending a minister’s event. He was a very good person.”
