Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Fakir Mahbub Anam has said that if a person, acting as a ‘content creator’, records a video of a person without permission on a mobile phone or camera and disseminates it on social media, the investigation will be completed within 90 days and speedy trial will be ensured under the Cyber Security Act of 2026.
He gave this information in response to a written question raised in the Question and Answer Session in the National Parliament on Tuesday (April 21).
Rafiqul Islam Hilali, MP from Netrokona-3 constituency, asked a written question during the question-and-answer session on the 18th day of the first session of the 13th National Parliament. The question was scheduled for April 19.
However, it was raised in Parliament on Tuesday (April 21).
In a written question, MP Rafiqul Islam Hilali said, “Will the Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology (Information and Communication Technology Division) please tell us that many people, under the guise of ‘content creators’, are going around with mobile phones or cameras, recording videos of people without permission and spreading them on social media with juicy headlines.”
In many cases, extortion is demanded through threats. In this context, what kind of preventive, legal and technical measures has your ministry taken and what plans do you have to prevent such instances in the future?
In response, Fakir Mahbub Anam said in writing that legal action has been taken by the Information and Communication Technology Department.
He said that according to Section 25(1) of the ‘Cyber Security Act, 2026’ (the Cyber Security Bill, 2026 was passed in the Parliament session on April 10, 2026), it is an offence to intentionally transmit, publish, disseminate or threaten to disseminate information, video, images or any material through a website or any other digital or electronic medium with the intention of blackmailing, sexual harassment, revenge porn or sextortion, or to engage in harmful or intimidating behaviour.
