Neymar Jr., still reeling from the World Cup exit in Brazil, has suffered a new setback. After the football field, this time the Brazilian star had to leave the poker table empty-handed.
The former Barcelona forward was eliminated on the first day of the 94th event of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) held in Las Vegas.
Neymar had to shell out around $10,000 (about 1.2 million taka in Bangladeshi currency) to participate in the tournament’s ‘Six-Handed No-Limit Hold’em Championship’.
The rules of the competition, which started with a maximum of six players per table, were quite strict. It was essentially a ‘freezeout’ tournament, meaning that once all the chips or bankroll was lost, there was no chance to buy new chips and get back into the game.
Neymar’s exit was quite dramatic. While playing a hand, he made ‘two pairs’ and bet all his chips.
But Neymar’s luck was in the balance as his opponent Vitalis Korhas already had a ‘set of sevens’ (three sevens). He was completely eliminated from the match before the ‘river’ or the final card came on the table. Like Neymar, world-renowned professional poker players such as Daniel Negreanu, Dan Smith and Josh Ariah were eliminated on the first day.
