Educationist, writer, researcher, literary critic and President of Bangla Academy Professor Abul Kashem Fazlul Haque is no more.
He breathed his last at a hospital in Mirpur, the capital, on Sunday (July 5) afternoon.
He was 86 years old.
Bangla Academy Director General Mohammad Azam said that Professor Fazlul Haque had gone to a restaurant in Mirpur for lunch.
He fell ill there and was taken to a hospital in Mirpur. He breathed his last between 2:30 and 3 pm.
Mohammad Azam said, “We are going to Sir’s house from Bangla Academy. We will inform you when a decision is made regarding the burial and paying homage.”
Abul Kashem Fazlul Haque was known for his neutral political thoughts and theories. He taught in the Bangla department of Dhaka University for four decades. He was the convener of the State Language Bangla Raksha Committee, which was vocal in ensuring the use of Bangla at all levels.
Abul Kashem Fazlul Haque was born on September 30, 1940 in Pakundia, Kishoreganj. After completing his secondary education from Mymensingh Zilla School and higher secondary education from Ananda Mohan College, he joined Dhaka University. After completing his graduation and post-graduation, Fazlul Haque started teaching here. Later, he also served as the president of the Bengali department.
