Minority ethnic leader Anna Minj gets BNP nomination

Christian and minority ethnic leader Anna Minz has been nominated by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) for the Natore-Naogaon reserved women’s seat in the 13th National Parliament. The news of her nomination has caused excitement among the local community as well as people from all walks of life.

Anna Minj is the daughter of Jonail in Natore’s Baraigram Upazila and the wife of BNP Central Committee’s Religious Affairs Assistant Secretary Advocate John Gomez. As soon as the news of her nomination as an MP candidate was received on Monday (April 20), people from all walks of life, including Christian and ethnic leaders in the region, are posting on social media expressing their gratitude and thanks to BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and the party’s Secretary General and Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

Nominated Anna Minz’s husband, Advocate John Gomez, introduced himself as a dedicated BNP worker and wrote in his Facebook post, ‘Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to Anna Minz, the candidate of Natore nominated by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-BNP for the reserved women’s seat of the 13th National Parliament. Thank you to the great creator. We express our sincere thanks and gratitude to the Honorable Chairman of BNP and Honorable Prime Minister Mr. Tarique Rahman and the Honorable Secretary General and Honorable Minister of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mr. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for nominating Anna Minz for the reserved women’s seat in the great National Parliament and for their far-reaching thoughts, leadership and trust in her.’

He further wrote, ‘Anna Minz is a well-known, worthy and proud representative of both the Christian and ethnic minority communities. Anna is a skilled and successful leader in her personal, family and professional life. All of you should pray and wish Anna well. May she successfully play a role in the development of the underprivileged, Christian and minority ethnic communities.’

Journalist Amar De Costa, Natore District Convener of Bangladesh Human Rights Foundation and President of Boral Press Club, wrote on Instagram, ‘The current democratic government is trying to build a beautiful and clean parliament by taking into account all religions, castes and cultures of the country and is being successful and praised for it. Anna Minz is a successful and capable female leader. Her leadership will bring welfare to the common people, especially the marginalized people of these two upazilas.’
