Road blocked by 25 Hindu families in Narail after wall erected, later released

After receiving complaints that 25 Hindu fishermen’s families were blocked by erecting a wall on a road in Lohagara Upazila of Narail, the administration has arranged for both sides to sit down and open the road.

Additional District Magistrate Lincoln Biswas said on Friday that the long-standing dispute over the construction of a boundary wall in Malopara, Lakshmipasha village of the upazila, has been resolved ‘peacefully’.

After discussions at a mediation meeting held from 4 pm to 9:30 pm on Tuesday at the initiative of the district administration, the conflicting parties agreed to open the road for traffic.

Lincoln Biswas said, “I hope this will end the long-standing suffering of the locals and maintain communal harmony in the area.”

The meeting, chaired by him, was attended by Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Md. Kamruzzaman, Lohagara Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shammi Akhter, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Summita Saha, representatives of Malopara’s Jelepara, people from the side of Barrister Dedar-e-Elahi, the owner of the adjacent land, and leaders of political and social organizations.

The meeting was held under the direction of Narail-2 MP Ataur Rahman Bachchu and under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner. The road was opened for traffic after the wall was removed on Wednesday morning.
